Solar powered calculator
Solar powered calculators are hand-held electronic calculators powered by photovoltaic panels mounted on the device.[1] They were introduced at the end of the 1970s.[2]
Features
Solar calculators' displays utilize vacuum fluorescent displays as they are power efficient and is capable of operating in the low voltage range of 1.5 - 2 V.[3] Features on other models includes a light pipe used to converge light onto the solar cells to power the calculator.[4]
Advantages
- Solar-powered calculators would be advantageous over conventional battery operated electronic calculator as the battery replacement need not be considered.[5]
Drawbacks
- Solar calculators may not work well in indoor conditions under ambient lighting as sufficient lighting is not available.[6][7][8]
